A Wonderful World

Time is so fleeting! It is difficult to imagine that we are a little over a month away from the start of our school year. I feel like I need to squeeze out every last drop of summer, like squeezing lemons to make lemonade to sip while sitting on the back porch, listening to jazz.

Being a jazz lover, I thought the other day that the refrain of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” would really seem out of place as the soundtrack to today’s world events. The news events, like those of this summer, sometimes shake our faith, and cause us to question God and His plan. They leave us wondering. The media seems so driven by anything that will gain money or fame. In fact, it seems the entire world is in such dire need of the spot-light and sensationalism, that every day good people, doing good things, is rarely reported.

But we have to believe that it is a wonderful world, and that there are vast amounts of good in the world; it just isn’t seen as newsworthy by the modern media. But isn’t that what faith truly is? Relying on the goodness of God, in His great love, and trusting ourselves to Him is important to Christians. As in Hebrews 11:1, Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. Living our faith requires trust, not just in good times, but in not-so-good times. It requires believing in God’s plan for us, especially when we cannot see it ourselves. This causes me to hold tighter to my family, tighter to people I trust, and tighter to my faith.

We work hard to offer a small, wonderful world for learning here at St. Anne; a small, wonderful extended family to hold hands together, to pray together, and to grow together. I am excited to begin our next year together, and I know together we can make the year memorable in our own wonderful way.
