Homework

Why is “homework” such a bad thing? I have home work. You have home work. As adults we learn to juggle our time, to balance our days with enough work to feel productive, enough play to relax, and enough rest to get up and do it all over again.

It has been reported that it takes much more than 40 hours a week to be successful in today’s world. That is work beyond the work day. Students need to understand success is rooted in hard work; an ethic that surpasses what is required. What is required only maintains. Going beyond helps get you “beyond”.

Homework is an important means of providing students with specific opportunities to practice and extend the application of skills and knowledge. The amount of time needed for each student to complete assigned homework may vary according to the ability and study habits of the student. Parents are encouraged to supervise and support the completion of homework assignments. As partners in their children's education, parents should communicate with teachers if they observe a student who regularly struggles to complete homework or if the material is regularly too difficult for student to complete.

For various reasons many schools are giving up on requiring homework. It never gets completed, it gets forgotten at home, and quite simply, it is just not worth the hassle. I am not saying, “Pile it on!” I do not endorse giving students countless, mindless exercises. But teach them that it is not a punishment to have work beyond 3:00; sometimes, we need to work overtime in order to get the work done and done well.

Without homework, what will dogs find to eat?
